Castorlatum is a vegetable-based blend of Ricinus Communis (Castor) Oil, Hydrogenated Castor Oil and partially Hydrogenated Castor Oil. It is manufactured using a proprietary technology to create a Petroleum Jelly-like suspension and it can be substituted for petrolatum in all cosmetic and body care applications.

In addition to closely approximating the consistency of Petroleum Jelly, Castorlatum is an excellent humectant because of its occlusive tendency to lock in moisture thereby preventing water loss. This makes Castorlatum a perfect ointment base. Castorlatum imparts excellent emolliency and its reduced “greasy” after-feel makes it invaluable in skin and hair care formulations. Castorlatum is also ideal for hair pomades, styling waxes and muds.

For a warming/cooling effect

Essential Ingredients

-2 Cups Castorlatum

-½ Cup Certified Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil

-1 Tablespoon Deep Tissue Essential Oil Blend

-1 Tablespoon Peppermint 3X Essential Oil

-1 Tablespoon Menthol Crystals

Gently warm ½ cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil to around 120° F. Once Extra Virgin Olive Oil is properly heated add 1 tablespoon Menthol Crystals. Gently stir the oil until Menthol Crystals have completely dissolved. Next add 2 cups Castorlatum to the oil and stir while heating. Continue stirring under heat until the mixture is completely homogenized. Once the ointment is completely mixed discontinue heating and allow the ointment to cool. Once the ointment reaches a temperature of around 90° F add 1 tablespoon Peppermint 3X Essential Oil and 1 tablespoon Deep Tissue Essential Oil Blend. Allow product to cool to room temperature before use.

For a stronger warming/cooling effect simply increase the quantities of essential oils and/or menthol crystals.
