Easy Color-Rich Face Paints
Looking for a little color to kick off the summer? Try experimenting with Colorants and Pigments and create your own Silky-Smooth Face Paint. It’s fun to make, easy to clean up, and safe for kids and adults alike!
Even if you’ve never tried to create your own colors or painted a face, you can make color magic happen with a few easy steps and your imagination. This recipe comes to us from Teeneke Barresi, our Kitchen Chemistry Host, and Social Media Manager. She created a rainbow of natural face paints for me to use this weekend.
Equipment You’ll Need:
- Measuring cup
- Measuring spoons
- Mixing bowls
- Apron (to protect your clothes)
- 4 oz MCT Oil (or carrier oil of your choice)
- 1 oz Colorant or Pigment
- ¼ cup Arrowroot Powder (you’ll want to use less if colorant is an oxide)
- 1 tbsp Vitamin E
Mixing it Up
Add 4 oz of MCT Oil to your mixing bowl, slowly mix in ¼ cup Arrowroot Powder.
Mix until Arrowroot Powder is fully dissolved.
Slowly add 1 oz Colorant or Pigment and mix thoroughly.
If you would like to have a thicker paint, add more Arrowroot Powder, a little at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
Add 1 tbsp of Vitamin E and mix well. This will help keep the MCT Oil from spoiling.
Pour into a bottle or jar. Label with color and date mixed and you’re ready to start face painting.
Try using a plastic painter’s palette to mix colors while you’re painting. You’ll want to include a white titanium dioxide to brighten the colors. You can blend two or three together to get the exact color you want. Be sure to bring along some Micellar Water to clean your brushes, your fingers, and little faces.
Send us your face painting creations. We’d love to see what you create.
And just for fun, here’s a rainbow of face paints you can use. These pigments and oxides make great eye shadows, too.
